<-----Tarzan, on his first day of preschool

Ok, call this a cop-out for Eye Candy Friday, but quite honestly, it is all I can muster today.  I've had better Friday the 13ths.  ALL DAY long, nothing but ugly problems with major cases.

I've been on the road all week, and have had little time to do paperwork (oh, joy!), but still, it has to be done.  Guess what?  Another 16-hr day is in the lurks for this weekend.  Am I complaining?  Yes.  And, no.  I truly love my job, but it isn't always pretty.

I have the advantage of working out of my home, for the most part.  The rest of the time, I meet with injured patients, doctors, therapists, and yes, the dreaded attorneys.  We have become such a litigious society, that this attitude interferes with rendering care for ill people.  I am wise enough to not take things personally, and to also give it to God.  And Jim Beam, when the case arises.

Dscn5683Before my husband and I had children, it didn't matter that I worked at night to write reports.  This is how I get paid.  No report, no paycheck.  But now, I have munchkins to do homework with, read stories to, and basically chill out with at night.  My circadian rhythm dictates that I am a night owl, yet sometimes I am too tired to even don my wrist brace before I konk out.  So, this is what a working mother goes through?  Heh, I am still a fairly new mom.  This working mom stuff is hard!

Just to spice things up a wee bit, my brother from out West came over for a visit last week.  I haven't seen him since he came to collect his inheritance from my mother.  Actually, I didn't see him then.  Well, I can't remember when I saw him last, but he was here last week, with his wife.  We met my other brother and sister-in-law in Frankenmuth for a late dinner.  I just returned home from a case in Ohio, freshened up, packed up the kids and hubby, and drove to Zender's, about an hour away.  Boy Wonder got wild, Tarzan  hid under the table, and we all ate too much.  We promised to stay in touch.  Right.

<---Brother on the left is from Port Huron.  I'm very close with him, unless we are fighting.  Brother on the right is originally from California (long story, some day I will share it).  I am also close with him, unless his wife is involved.  (He's been married since 1963).  My sister is missing from the pictures, as usual, as she had her own misfit party the week prior, and didn't attend the Frankenmuth gala

Don't you just love families?

Please don't ask me to explain the sunglasses.  2nd from the right is Auntie El, my Port Huron Brother's wife, whom I adore.  She is a doll!  She is a great cook, as evidenced my my brother's , uh girth

Boy Wonder Starts School, and a Contest

Dscn56712Well, yesterday was Boy Wonder's first day of second grade.  He asked my husband to please not walk him to the bus stop.  It appears that my husband is the only parent to ever stand with his child while waiting for the bus.  It may have been appropriate behavior to a first grader last year, but this year, Mr. Second Grader will not have it.

My husband and I were wondering at what point the boys will begin to be embarrassed by us.  Being older parents, I am sure it will happen sooner than we think.  I'm actually looking forward to it with great enthusiasm, especially at the antics I can provide to enhance their cringing at my behavior.  I remember being embarrassed by my father's greying, baldish head when I was a first grader.  Everyone else's dad looked so young, by comparison, and they were, in fact.

Of course, I am sure Boy Wonder isn't so much as embarrassed by us, as he just wants to appear like a big boy in front of his peers.  Other parents allow their children to walk and play in the streets, but we have already had that conversation.

I won't be volunteering at the school as much this year, as I just don't have the time with my job.  Last year I had my hands full, even though I didn't work.  At the end of the year, I finally had it with the other room mom I job-shared with, and told her off.  We had agreed on certain tasks each of us would perform, but the tasks I undertook never seemed to be up to par for her tastes, so she redid them.  The first two times I felt that she was extremely rude, but if she wanted to redo them, it was fine with me.  The last straw was the end of year class picture.  I had just returned to work after 4 years, with a full caseload of catastrophic cases.  It was all I could do to corral the children, take the picture of the class, and keep it a secret from the homeroom teacher that day so we could have a surprise for her.  It turned out two children were absent.  Well, kids are absent every day.  So be it.  Those are the breaks for missing school.  She waited until the 2 kids were back, and took another picture herself, this after I had already asked her if she realized how incredibly irrational she was, and I might have also said crazy.   I told her she was plain rude, given the fact that I had just wasted my time and money on taking the picture, but like so many other suburban soccer moms with pony tails and SUVs, she was too self-centered to answer or care.  I do not work well with neurotic stupidity.  Besides, I had nothing in common with the other moms I had contact with, other than the fact that we had children.

Now for the fun stuff.  Grace is having a contest, in honor of her blogiversary.  Tell her I referred you!  We call her Queen of Shawls - check out what she is giving away!  Wouldn't I love to win one of those?
